18/07/2003
According to the weather forecast for today no tasks have been set for all classes at the second briefing which was held at 13:00. An waving cold front will influence the weather during the afternoon. We expect today's weather not reliable for flying.
17/07/2003
According to the weather forecast for today it looks like we might have the 11th day of flying. Yesterday the audience have enjoyed the rock concert in the briefing hall.

For today tasks have been set for all classes at the second briefing which was held at 11:30. An approaching waving cold front will influence the weather during late afternoon. We expect Cu clouds and shorter thermal period than yesterday. Take off was at 12:45.

All gliders have been launched with only a few relights . We expect the first arrivals before 18:00. We hope the weather will be good enough to ensure that all will land back in Nitra airfield.

Glider IDA which suffered an undercarriage collapse a few days ago had the same problem today but got airbourne and has landed safely in neigbouring cut hayfield. Jan Cesnek in glider E (PW5) suffered a technical failure and he was lucky to land safely, but his glider will not be serviceable for tomorow.

Outlandings World class: W2, JK,

Outlandings Standard class: Y1,

Outlandings Club class: HY,

16/07/2003
Today we are expecting similar but possibly even better weather than yesterday. With this expectation long racing tasks have been set for all classes. The World class will try 444 km the Club class 515 km and the standard class 531 km. Take off is expected at 11:30.

Glider IDA is now fully repaired and will fly today.

Outlandings World class: SV, 01, V, PA, I, E, W2, 2C,

Outlandings Standard class: SF, Y1, L7, DD, LZ, PO,

Outlandings Club class: SS, SA,

15/07/2003
After the unexpected spreadout which occured yesterday, so far we are pleased to say that the weather is developing just as expected. Longer tasks were set for all classes at briefing. Take off was on time at 11:30 and although the sky was blue overhead Nitra airfield the thermals were already developing and by the time the standard class had launched there were good cumulus with high bases wherever you looked.

During launch one club class glider (IDA) had an undercarriage collapse. The German team are working hard with the help of the Slovak Aeroclub engineers to fix the glider. We hope it is possible to fly the glider later today. Update: At 15:55 IDA took off with the undercarriage fixed in the down position after 3:45 hours of hard work by all concerned. Everybody was delighted to see him take off and our latest information is that he will probably touch all areas and may well get back to the airfield.

So far with only one glider IDA outstanding it seems likely that there will be no landouts today. We are now updating the preliminary results.

14/07/2003
Today it is much better day than yesterday. The weather forecast gives good Cu clouds all day with only 20 % probability of showers in the mountains of the North. Long tasks have been set for all classes at briefing a few minutes ago. Take off will be early we expect it to be at 11:30.

We have launched all classes in 1 hour exactly. We have been able to do this with the help of the Dynamic ultralight plane which was being demonstrated here by the company Aerospool Prievidza. The weather is still looking good so we are hoping for high speeds from all classes.

Outlandings Standard class: BW2, EH, 352, 232, MC, EU, MR, XT, DD, E2, 321, W3, L7, ER, M8, UG, H8, Z2, ALI, PI, LZ, VL, SF, PO, 2A, X, Y1, JB, CE, HD, D2, 28, AR, AG,

Outlandings World class: SV, 5, 01, W2, JK, PA, I, V, K, E, W1, LOT, F1, 2C, ISV, JP, EY, EZ, UT, UA, TS,

Outlandings Club class: OK, 101, BF, HY, TL, LT, 42, 21, MS, G4, SZ, 882, 38, IW, CX, 99, RNT, NX, HER, XC, RD, EO, BZ, W, ED, EG, IDA, SA, SS, L3, R4, Y4, L8, BI,

Despite our best hopes and our Met man's forecast the weather for today has not materialised in the way we were expecting. As a result we have seen locally a lot of spreadout of the clouds and in particular the first turning point for the Standard class became almost impossible to achieve.

In the World class and Club class the pilots have also experienced difficult conditions and only a few of each class have made any long distance. They are lucky because their efforts will be rewarded with a valid contest day. We think that the Standard class will not have a valid day.

13/07/2003
According to the weather forecast it looks like it might be the 7th contest day. Yesterday all interested have enjoyed the international evening in the briefing hall. Teams have presented their typical drinks or meals on the tables during the evening. Almost all attending declared the Hungarian table to have been the best table of the evening.

Tasks have been set for all classes at briefing a few minutes ago. The moist airmass will influence cloud development during the day. We expect big Cu clouds and local showers during the task. Take off is expected to be at 12:00.

Outlandings World class: I, EY, JK, EZ, 5, LOT, 01, 2C,

Outlandings Club class: HER, ISV, L3, 38, 882, RNT, Y4

Outlandings Standard class: DD, AR, WL, D2, EH,

12/07/2003
Official rest day. With relation to weather forecast for today we decided to declare the official rest day of the competition. Yesterday all interested have enjoyed Slovak evening in the briefing hall with local vine and beer served together with our traditional meals.

This afternoon there is the Air Show scheduled at the airport of Nove Zamky only 45 km South from here. We expect some pilots and crews will use opportunity to attend this show. We hope there will be not much rainy during the afternoon.

11/07/2003
6th contest day. Speed Tasks have been set for all classes at briefing a few minutes ago. There is no significant problem with the weather forecast for today. Our area is influenced by high pressure ridge from the West- North West.  We expect the conditions will be reliable for long tasks for all classes. Take off is expected to be at 11:30.

All gliders have been launched within 1:12 with few relights only. More later.

Outlandings World class: 5, I,

Outlandings Standart class: AR, W3, CE, 28, HD, JB, PO, DD,

Outlanding Club class: 99, BF

10/07/2003
It looks like it might be the 5th contest day. Tasks have been set for all classes at briefing a few minutes ago. There are medium level clouds moving into our area from the West- North West.  These clouds will influence thermal development in the early afternoon. Take off is expected to be at 12:00.

There are all gliders in the air now. Only four relights today until now. The expected medium level clouds outspreading may cause a problems for standard and club class gliders which have their tasks to NE. More later.

The photos from ceremony and competition days you can find here.

Outlandings World class: PA, 01, TS, I, F1,

Outlandings Standard class: E2, SF, AG, L7, HD, RA, W3, EU, EH, M8, PO, VG, MC, LZ , VL, AR, ER, H8, MR, X, ALI, 321, JB, CE, 28, Z2, D2, 352, 232, XT, BW2

Outlandings Club class: 99, HY, CX, TL, LT, SA, Y4, SZ, BF, STL, JP,

The forecast weather did not happen. As a result the standard class gliders have been forced to wait at the first turn point area for weather conditions suitable for rounding this TP. The rain at that area caused them a delay of almost 3 hours before they could recover and fly away. Most of them that have rounded the TP had to climb in wave to maximum allowed altitude. Only 16 have managed to round TP1 today. That is why we have all standards in fields today.

09/07/2003
The 4th contest day, we hope. There is briefing going on at the moment. Tasks have been set for all classes despite the uncertain weather situation here. There are high level clouds arriving in our area from the West- North West.  These clouds will influence thermal development early afternoon. Take off is expected to be at 12:00.

All gliders have been launched within 1 h 13 min with no relights needed. The strong wind caused a wave situation behind the hills and some pilots have been able to reach maximum available altitude (2760M QNH) for starting. In the end it looks as though we have underestimated the task, but we expected more upper level clouds influence from west. Despite this we are having fourth valid task in each class and so the championships is valid. No need to fly on 19th of July - Reserve day. At the end of the day we are having only few outlandings:

Outlandings today: 99, JP, SA

08/07/2003
The third contest day. Tasks have been set for all classes and all classes will be launched at 12.00. The weather has improved under the influence of a ridge of high pressure arriving from the West- North West.  Once again we have a strong wind with speeds up to 10 m/s. It is 18:15 local time and we are missing only two gliders. Total we have only 9 outlanding until now.

Outlandings today: W1, 99, W2, VL, I, F1, M8, HY, BF, E

07/07/2003
The second contest day. Tasks have been set for all classes and all classes have been launched at 12.15. The weather became overcast after the opening of the start lines, but we have been informed that some pilots have found thermals up to 3 m/s. Despite a very strong wind up to 12 m/s there are few World Class gliders back home with the distances flown more than 200 km during more than 3 hours flight. We expect more arrivals soon.

Arrivals World class: E, PA, F1, K, 01, EZ, LOT, UT, V, W2

Arrivals Club class: 101, 21, 38, 42, 882, ED, EG, EO, G4, HER, HY, IW, LT, MS, NX, R4, RNT, STL, SZ, TL, W, Y4

Arrivals Standard class: 232, 321, 352, BW2, E2, MR, SF, W3, XT, CE, 28

06/07/2003
First contest day. Tasks have been set for all classes and after a delayed start due to the slow improvement of the weather all classes have been launched at 12.45 and despite a few re-lights every one has started. We expect the first gliders to return to Nitra after 4.00pm and the rest later.

From Standard class are here H8, X, 352, 232, L7, D2, ALI, XT, BW2, EH, 2A, ER, PO, MK.

From Club class are here: Y4, L8, CX, G4, RNT, 882, SZ, MS, RD, IW, OK, XC, HY, SA.

05/07/2003
Today is the day of the Official Opening ceremony and although we set tasks for all classes most pilots preferred to have a free day prior to the competition starting. Because there were only a few gliders on the grid we have only been able to issue results for the World and Club classes. A simple and effective ceremony proceeded very smoothly and the Flying display immediately afterwards was very impressive especially as it was performed in very strong wind conditions.

04/07/2003
First Official training day. The tasks set were not very long because of the forecast weather situation. We expected the clouds to be overcast later in the afternoon but this did not happen and the pilots were able to complete all the tasks quite quickly and easily. This can be seen in the results.
03/07/2003
Today has been a free day. The weather was overcast with a few showers, not suitable for flying. Pilots have been able to explore the local area and get their shopping completed.
02/07/2003
Another fine training day. The pilots have been able to fly to the mountain areas in the N and NE of the airspace reserved for the competition. We have been able to launch more than 70 gliders in a very short time with the help of the turbine tow planes that we have here. Everybody is very happy to be towed by these planes, because the rate of climb of more than 9 m/s is very impressive From tomorrow we will have official training days to practice the organisation for the real contest days.
01/07/2003
More and more pilots and team captains are present. The weather has been almost the same as yesterday, so again good training possibilities. The pilots have been checking their instruments and flight recorders to prepare these equipments for the real contest days.
30/05/2003
More than half of the pilots are already present in Nitra for the unofficial trainig which started today. The weather situation is in favor of everybody. Today the pilots who have flown experienced very nice conditions during their flights with cloudbases up to 2600 m and thermals up to 4m/s in the mountains area. We have been informed that lot of them have flown more than 500 km during free flying.
29/04/2003
